At Home Glowing Self Tanning How To

Self Tanning Tutorial

Living in South Texas is mostly really awesome; we’re close to the beach, never more than a stone’s throw away from a good breakfast taco, and everywhere you go has margaritas. One of the downsides of living in paradise is that we don’t really get great seasons. We basically get three seasons: Windy, Hot, and Hotter. During Windy (what we are currently experiencing. Typically lasts from November-February) the average temperatures are in the low 70’s and we are accompanied with a lot of gray, windy days. It doesn’t ever really get cold enough to need to break out the boots or scarves but it’s definitely not warm enough to garner a tan at the beach.

During the Windy season our sun-kissed tans fade away and us South Texas girls have an insatiable craving to be perfectly bronze once more. I’ve never been once for tanning beds (and you shouldn’t be either according to EVERYONE and EVERY study EVER)  and having someone professionally spray tan you on the regular gets expensive. After much trial and error, I’m here to tell you that I have found the absolute best, full proof way to give yourself a perfectly glowing tan at home! Follow the instructions below to take you from Faded and Sad to Glowing and Glad in 10 minutes!

At Home Sun Kissed Self Tanning How To

You will need:

   1 Body Brush

   Favorite body exfoliate

Body Self tanner– My All-time favorite is Sun Laboratories in Medium. I have naturally olive skin, if you are more fair you might want the Light option

Face Self tanner- of all the self tanners I’ve tried, I always come back to Neutrogena for my face. The mist doesn’t clog my pores and it leaves a glowing look I haven’t found with any others.

Medical Exam Gloves– I like these . You don’t HAVE to get gloves and can use your bare hands but the whole process is much less messy with gloves

old face towel– for hard to reach places like your back

Method:

Take a shower and exfoliate your entire body. Pay special attention to knees, ankles, and elbows. These areas will hold onto color and are the most prone to the “caking” effect because they don’t naturally rejuvenate skin cells as quickly as the rest of your body.

Be sure that you are COMPLETELY dry before applying tanner. If your hair is wet, tie it up and put a towel over it while applying the tanner

Put on your gloves and get ready to be amazed!

First, a few tips:

*The overall method is to start at the bottom and work your way up*

*Use one pump or lotion per extremity- 1 per leg, 1 per arm, 1 for your torso, and 1 for your back and WAY less for your hands and feet- a little goes a long way!*

   Legs and arms:

Pump 1 pump of lotion into your gloved hands and spread around so that both gloves are covered in lotion

Starting at the bottom of your calf, work the lotion up in small circles until you are at the top of your thigh/arm

*Make sure that you are covering the entire front, back, and sides*

Continue rubbing the lotion in until it is COMPLETELY incorporated into your skin. When you feel like the gloves are rubbing on bare skin, it is completely soaked in.

Repeat until both legs and arms are tanned and dried

   Feet:

When you are almost out of lotion on each leg, lightly swipe the tops of your feet and ankles with your gloved hand. a little goes A LONG way on your feet so one swipe over will be plenty to get the desired color.

   Torso:

Pump 1 pump of lotion into your gloved hands and spread around so that both gloves are covered in lotion

Starting at the bottom of your torso, work the lotion up in small circles until you are at the top of your chest

*you can incorporate the lotion up your neck if you like. Make sure that it is completely rubbed in at the top of your neck and do not apply to your face*

Continue rubbing the lotion in until it is COMPLETELY incorporated into your skin. When you feel like the gloves are rubbing on bare skin, it is completely soaked in.

   Back:

Pump 1 pump of lotion onto your hand towel and apply to your back from the bottom up

Continue massaging into your back until it is completely incorporated into your skin

*the best way to ensure total coverage is to have someone help you with your back. If you are alone, use a mirror to help guide you*

  Face:

Pull all hair up and away from your face

Spray one thin mist in from left to right on washed and dried face

Spray one more thin mist from right to left

  Hands:

After removing your gloves, apply 1/4 pump to top of one hand and rub until completely incorporated

    Repeat with other hand

Maintenance:

Your tan should be fully developed within a few hours. I like to tan at night and sleep with just underwear on so that it can fully develop and not be rubbed or faded with clothes. If you do tan during the day, just make sure to wear loose clothes for a few hours while it develops.

Your tan will naturally fade within 4-7 days depending on your activity and shower schedule. To extend your tan just make sure to keep your skin moisturized throughout the day and night.I apply coconut oil to my entire body every night before bed and as soon as I wake up. It’s a cheap way to stay moisturized and smelling like a pina colada while extending my glow!

I tan my face twice a week and body once a week to stay tanned year round.

Hope this helps! Can’t wait to see all your tans! XOXO
