At Home Glowing Self Tanning How To

Self Tanning Tutorial

Living in South Texas is mostly really awesome; we’re close to the beach, never more than a stone’s throw away from a good breakfast taco, and everywhere you go has margaritas. One of the downsides of living in paradise is that we don’t really get great seasons. We basically get three seasons: Windy, Hot, and Hotter. During Windy (what we are currently experiencing. Typically lasts from November-February) the average temperatures are in the low 70’s and we are accompanied with a lot of gray, windy days. It doesn’t ever really get cold enough to need to break out the boots or scarves but it’s definitely not warm enough to garner a tan at the beach.  During the Windy season our sun-kissed tans fade away and us South Texas girls have an insatiable craving to be perfectly bronze once more. I’ve never been once for tanning beds (and you shouldn’t be either according to EVERYONE and EVERY study EVER)  and having someone professionally spray tan you on the regular gets expensive. After much trial and error, I’m here to tell you that I have found the absolute best, full proof way to give yourself a perfectly glowing tan at home! Follow the instructions below to take you from Faded and Sad to Glowing and Glad in 10 minutes!  At Home Sun Kissed Self Tanning How To You will need:    1 Body Brush     Favorite body exfoliate    Body Self tanner– My All-time favorite is Sun Laboratories in Medium. The Organized Girl’s Guide to The Perfect Hospital Bag

Perfect Hospital Bag

Alright, you guys know I love a good checklist. I’ve had multiple girlfriends request the checklist to end all checklists for packing the perfect hospital bag for them and their soon-to-be little bundles of joy. I can promise you that you will want to pack SO MUCH MORE than is on this list: don’t. You won’t ever take a hair dryer out of your suitcase but you (or your adoring hubby) will still have to drag it out of the hospital eventually. The hospital will have EVERYTHING that baby NEEDS while in the hospital- diapers, wipes, swaddle blankets, etc. The only things you need to bring for baby will be comfort items you have picked out for them. For Momma: Cute headbands– The only way I kept myself sane waiting for my children to make their grand entrances was by messing with my hair. I had planned inductions but I still truly believed that my water would spontaneously break and I would be rushed to the hospital, making it without a second to spare. Because of this, I spent most of the last month of my pregnancy curling my hair. I DID NOT want to be on day 3 of a blowout when I went into labor (#firstworldproblems). Anyway, even if you haven’t had time to do your hair, a cute and comfortable elastic headband will take your mind off your hair and back onto the baby about to make you a momma! Headband 1 Headband 2 Makeup– Generally, labor is…

Postpartum Pads

For all you expectant mommas out there: I know how you feel, you’ve either spent every second since learning you were pregnant  feverishly Googling “ring of fire” or  vehemently avoiding all thoughts about the labor and delivery process. I, of course, spent approximately 37 weeks completely obsessing over pushing a beautiful little baby out of my hoo-ha. After extensive research, I asked my wonderful, gracious OB things like: Me: “How will this work exactly?”   Her: “You will go into labor and less than 24 hours later you will have a baby” Me: “Can you guarantee me that I won’t tear?” Her: “Absolutely not” “Can we just schedule a c-section and be done with it?” Her: “Absolutely not” “How many kegals should I be doing per hour to be sure that I don’t tear?” Her: “Just whenever you think about it the last month or so of pregnancy” “Should I use insert Evening Primrose Oil into my vagina to ‘ripen’ my cervix?” Her: “Please, please do not insert any foreign objects for any reason”   So basically, she gave me nothing. She refused my request for general anesthesia and instead recommended making what she called postpartum pads. Against her better judgement, she sent me back to google to find the perfect recipe. She promised that in the unlikely event that I did tear during labor (I did, by the way, she’s a liar) these (along with copious amounts of pain medicine) would make me more comfortable. SHE WAS RIGHT. I…

5 Mommy Stages of Halloween

Like most holidays, preparation for Halloween falls on my plate. This is mainly because I LOVE any excuse to buy special outfits for the littles. Typically, by Memorial Day, I’ve been scouring Pinterest and Etsy for months in search of the perfect, unique sibling costumes. I order them and anxiously wait for the mailman to deliver the goods in 6-8 weeks. This year, because we are in the throes of Minion Mania, we went with something a little different: the littles are going to be Elves inspired by the Elf on the Shelf. They’re adorable and creative and if we see another set of elves we are immediately leaving whatever event we are at. Kidding. Kind of. I know that Halloween celebrations are an overwhelming week of parties, candies, and costumes for all families and realized when talking with my Mommy Friends just how crazy the holiday week is. We are all officially walking through these 5 Stages of Mommy Halloween: 1.Preparation We begin the Halloween festivities months in advance by first deciding on the most appropriate and unique family costumes for our size, age, and make up before we’ve even licked the ketchup off our 4th of July hot dogs. We then spend 450% more money than anticipated on the costumes and accessories to make ours WAY better than that Stepford family on our block. The costumes arrive by Labor Day and we begin making appropriate alterations to insure that each member of the family is perfectly outfitted for the…

The 4 Types of Yoga Pants Every Woman Needs

Yoga Pants banner

I haven’t always been the type of woman who wears yoga pants on a regular basis. No, not that long ago I was a decently well dressed career woman who loved a good pantsuit as much as the next one. Nowadays, I’m taking full advantage of lack of dress code at our home office…so much so that it has recently dawned on me that I’ve gone WEEKS (with the exception of going to church, I have some class after all) without wearing “real pants”. This is possible partly because it’s still, in mid October, insanely hot in South Texas and the THOUGHT of denim makes me sweat and partly because that’s how far I’ve fallen.  It’s also come to my attention that there are different types of yoga pants for different occasions. Behold, the 4 types of yoga pants every woman needs: The Throwback– These Good ‘Ole Boys have your Greek Letters or College emblem stitched into the leg. They remind you of the glory days when all nighters weren’t supervised by a newborn and the only bottle you cared about was the fifth of Fireball used for pregaming on Thirsty Thursday. They are typically worn on College Game Day- hey, you’re still relevant! Mrs. Fancy Pants– These threads are saved for special occasions: boozy lunches, dates with your waxing lady, and the like. They tote name brands like Tory and Lulu and make an appearance when you have to go out in public but can’t be bothered to put on a…

The Organized Girl’s Guide to Packing

Guide to Packing

VACATION! We are going on vacation with 3 of our closest friends this upcoming week. We are all leaving our babies behind with their very loving and very capable grandparents. I’m equal parts excited and nervous. We’ve never spent any time away from either of our babies but know what great hands they will be in with my parents and sister. They will have a great time getting spoiled by Nanna, staying up past their bedtimes, and eating cake for breakfast with Papa but man, I already know how badly we will miss them. Here’s hoping that the WIFI at our resort works as well as TripAdvisor claims so that we can FaceTime them as often as we want! As all moms know, with littles ones in tow, just leaving the house requires a deliberately packed diaper bag with extras of everything loaded in the back of your vehicles just in case something unexpected occurs. You’ve never felt true panic until you’ve been 45 minutes away from a store with a diaper blowout and pulling out the last diaper you have packed to find it to be two sizes smaller than your baby’s growing bum. The truth is I have always been an over packer. Since becoming a mom, my packing neurosis is in overdrive. Keith and I went through a few years of constant travel for work. We were living in hotels and out of suitcases through most of our first year of marriage and most of my first…

Can I wear these leggings as pants?

Leggins as pants featured

Well, the best time of year has arrived: Pumpkin spice everything on store shelves and in the air, Hobby Lobbyselling Christmas trees well before Halloween, and the visual assault on my eyes by women who, year after year, insist on wearing leggings inappropriately. I know, I know: how many blogs can we write and read on this topic? Yet, still, here we are, with women all over the world showing their nether regions and all of God’s gifts for the whole world to see. I thought that I would come up with a resource for busy women who don’t want to bother with reading long, long lists and blogs when trying to decide if what they are wearing will get them the wrong kind of attention. If you are at a crossroads, refer to this simple info-graphic. Remember: when in doubt, put on real pants!   If you liked this post, you should really check out my Facebook page The Stylish Mommy and Instagram @the_stylish_mommy

Fall 2015 Trends and Misses

Fall Trends

I don’t know about you guys, but I am SO ready for fall- or, as my kindred spirits refer to this time of year, Pumpkin Spice Season. We moved back to South Texas in May of this year and, man, it has been HOT HOT HOT for months. Not that we will get much relief from that in the coming months, but the next few weeks will at least bring the average temperatures into the eighties instead of the nineties. With that temperature change, we will be able to dawn our Winter Wardrobe. Though a South Texan’s Winter Wardrobe doesn’t require nearly the amount of layering that you Northerners get to dress for, we do try to stay on point with the trends and modify them for the warmer climate we are baking living in. Here are some of the fall trends and colors I can’t wait to wear: Olive EVERYTHING Olive is in again this fall and I am SO PLEASED. I think this color looks good on every skin tone and hair combination and it happens to make me look more tan than I am. Like Momma always said, “even fat looks good tan”. 😉 Two of my favorite Olive pieces right now are also from my boutique Buttoned Up. This poncho is really swing-y and puts an extra bounce in my step just by throwing it on. Right now I’m wearing it with cutoffs and Converse but it will seamlessly pair with skinnies and booties when the…
